The 2012 model features an easier to use and clever technical change to the Slideout where the righthand Slideout moves Slideout by screwing in adjuster, holding wheel in compression whilst the lefthand adjuster screws directly into the Slideout resisting the torque created under braking. Seattube clamping slot is now arranged to the side and for 2012 is fitted with a Pace Rc80 BB as standard whilst two new colours are added- a classic Gloss Black and beautiful Pearl White. Morris Blue continues for 2012.

The 104 is designed as a fast and stable trail bike designed to be as flexible as possible in how you can use it- and as such nicely compliments the variety of transmission setups available with the Slideout design. The 104 is designed to take a 4inch (100mm) travel fork (hence the ‘4′ in 104) but will accept up to a 4 3/4″ (120mm) travel fork. In actual fact a 130mm could be fitted but given this travel of fork is no longer widely available 120mm is the realistic max. The geometry shown below is given fitted with a 100mm travel fork as if you were sat on the bike (so the fork is sagged say 20mm). This geometry would be the same if fitted with a Pace Rc31 440mm length RC31.

The 104 is a thing of real quality, durability and beauty and is fully handmade. So don’t confuse the 104 with a standard steel frame which is production constructed with straight tubes (often straight gauge tubes) and is simply TIG welded together. The 104 has each joint hand mitered, TIG welded then fillet brazed using silver and brass before being sanded and polished into a radiused smooth joint- the perfect blend of strength with a finish like no other. Infact this detailing confuses people into thinking the frame is a carbon fibre construction as each tube gently blends and flows into the other. Its a great example of bringing traditional frame construction techniques bang up to date.

Technical

- RC104 frames are one of the best corrosion protected steel frames in the business and we take great care to ensure a long and rust free life. Underneath the twin-pack epoxy paintwork you’ll find a quality coat of chrome plate covering all of the chainstays and the seat stays too, so you have one of the toughest surface treatments in the area of the frame that gets the most abuse. Up front the main frame is phosphate treated during the manufacturing process which adds a very high level of corrosion resistance internally and externally, and again this provides a great base coat for the paint finish. All graphics are applied to the paint surface before the whole paint job is sprayed with a tough high gloss clearcoat of laquer. However customers often choose to add their own belt and braces protection to their new frame and for this we recommend the world famous J.P Weigle Frame Save spray which coats the tubes internal surfaces with a rust inhibiting coating.

We also drill a small 4mm hole in the underside of the BB shell which allows the frame to breath and drain any moisture which gravitates into the BB shell. If you have the plastic under BB shell cable guide fitted its worthwhile periodically loosening this cleaning out the drain hole and its area.

- The plastic ‘undertunnel’ cable guide is supplied with frame but not fitted (not required if running singlespeed). Make sure when fitting that washer supplied is fitted under screw head otherwise screw may penetrate too deeply and damage the sleeve of your BB

- Seat post size should be 30mm. If however you need a short term fix for a 27.2mm seatpost we would recommend the Humpberts cnc machined aluminium insert. 27.2I.D/30mm OD. Part No; 43116-300. Call the distributor Elliots on 01772-459887 however do not use this for long term use.

Warranty

Your RC104 comes with a full 2 year warranty which covers any defect in manufacture or materials. This applies to you the original owner. However we also provide a Pace ‘Crash Replacement’ scheme during the frames 3 and 4 year where a replacement frame will be offered at a full 30% discount! (from SRP). Again this only applies to the original owner and the original purchase receipt must be provided with any claim. Original frame goes back to Pace.
