Yesterday was International Women's Day but we thought why does it have to stop after one day?! We are celebrating women's achievements and a call for greater equality around the world. So we have asked female riders a few questions about their world with bikes, what drives them and to get their views on the women's scene as it stands, and where it's heading. We will be introducing you to some awesome female shredders who inspire other women daily by just being themselves. Here is lady number 6...

Name: Holly Melling

Where do you live: Kendal

Age: 29

Instagram Name: hol_mell

What do you do for a living?
SEMH Support Teacher

What type of riding is it you do? Trail riding, hike a bike, XC

What is it about riding your bike your love the most? Freedom, adrenaline, being outdoors, riding with mates and speed

Where is the best place you have ridden? Wales

Where is the next place on your adventure list? Canada

Who do you like to ride with? Me mates

Apart from riding, what do you like to do in your free time? Climbing, Fell running, Fell walking, Yoga, Mountain search and rescue and have a social wine or ten

How did you meet your riding pals? A friend added me to a Facebook message full of female riders and I just started going out with some local women. A small group of us keen 'uns have been riding together for 2-3 years now

Any words of inspiration for people wanting to start riding or to meet people to go riding with?Get out as much as you can. If you fall down, get back up and just accept your shins ain't going to be pretty for a while/ever again! There are plenty of female riders in Facebook groups. Don't be worried about riding with experienced riders! They'll be happy to be out with you no matter what your ability is!

What scares you the most about riding? Cleaning the sheep poo off my wheels is a pretty terrifying ordeal. No, seriously, probably steep roots and huge jumps/gaps

Do you have any female role models? Rachel Atherton and Manon Carpenter

Does the bike industry need to do more for greater equality or do you think its great as it is?
I think it's pretty equal. Clothing would be something I would've commented on a couple of years ago but I've seen a huge improvement in women's/unisex clothing ranges

Do you think the bike industry needs more ‘Women’s only” products/races/groups or do you think it should be all unisex? Unisex

As a female rider is there anything you would like to see change? No

Finally, when your shredding alone, what is your all time favourite song? I don't listen to music when I ride but if I did, it'd probably be rock or techno

: ) Happy shredding
