INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY - #3 MEET KATE O'CALLAGHAN

Yesterday was International Women's Day but we thought why does it have to stop after one day?! We are celebrating women's achievements and a call for greater equality around the world. So we have asked female riders a few questions about their world with bikes, what drives them and to get their views on the women's scene as it stands, and where it's heading. We will be introducing you to some awesome female shredders who inspire other women daily by just being themselves. Here is lady number 3...

KATE O'CALLAGHAN

What is it about riding your bike your love the most? That's a tricky one as I love so much about it but mostly the sense of freedom and headspace it gives me! Overcoming challenges is a big part of it too!

Where is the best place you have ridden? Oooh I love the lake but I think my favourite place has to have been Finale Ligure.

Where is the next place on your adventure list? Plenty of local riding planned but next big adventure will be Canada

KATE O'CALLAGHAN

Who do you like to ride with? Anyone who is keen for an adventure!! Ride mostly with the husband and a group of cool girls!

Apart from riding, what do you like to do in your free time? Socialise!! Love being with people and chilling!! I love to do anything that challenges me, I'm always outdoors! I love a good yoga class too!

How did you meet your riding pals? Through Danny, I knew Callie from drunken nights around town and then a Facebook group set up by Graham Beaumont a few years ago! So glad he invited me to it as I've met some of the best girls I know in it!

Any words of inspiration for people wanting to start riding or to meet people to go riding with? Be brave and just go for it..! So many people hold back because they feel they won't 'keep up' or are feeling a little shy but honestly we have all been there, all struggled on the climbs, all felt the 'pressure' of being at the back, but not one person I have ever ridden with minds hanging around (if they have too) it's all about the social aspect and empowering each other to progress! We're a real friendly bunch! Just go for it, you have to start somewhere...

What scares you the most about riding? The injuries

Do you have any female role models? Anne - Caroline Chausson - she proves to me that there is biking after cancer!! To be honest though I'm inspired by every day women just being who they are and loving life!!

Does the bike industry need to do more for greater equality or do you think its great as it is? Definitely needs to do more!

Do you think the bike industry needs more ‘Women’s only” products/races/groups or do you think it should be all unisex? Women's only is great but we scream for equality so unisex is fine by me! There are many female riders who can hold there on and kick ass!!! Although, some more female riding gear wouldn't do a miss...!

As a female rider is there anything you would like to see change? Just the equality, men's mountain biking gets so much more coverage!!

Finally, when your shredding alone, what is your all time favourite song? Hmmm I don't listen to music when I shred alone, I'm all about the silence and head space, I love meditation and I find I get the same outcome from the freedom on the bike!!
