Our 3×3 jacket continues to be the benchmark offroad winter performance jacket for one simple reason- it does what its supposed to. Which is why Pace have kept the design pretty much unchanged for the past 9 years- why change something that works so well when adding features which aren’t essential reduce performance? Jackets with more pockets, vents, adjusters and seams are;
- less waterproof (as water has many more possible points of entry)
- less durable in the longterm with more bits to snag, tear and degrade (and more seam-sealing tape on the inside=increased chance of damage and water ingress)
- heavier and more expensive
The 3×3 follows the proven cycling maxim of ‘less is more’- less weight, complexity and cost- more durability and function, and is one of the few performance jackets available in custom designed male and female cuts. The 3×3 also consistantly ranks at the top of editorial reviews and forums because the two essential requirements of a jacket are bang-on; the jacket fits correctly and the fabric performs as it should (see our REVIEWS section for product reviews- you’ll find this by clicking Frame Range tab). Pace were one of the very first manufacturers to use eVENT fabric and chose this ground breaking material because it is one of the best performers when used in cycling applications. Mountain bikers in particular generate huge amounts of heat and moisture and no other fabric transports this away to the surface of the jacket where it evaporates as efficiently as eVENT. It keeps you dry on the inside because the sweat is moved out- rain water is kept out.
The 3×3 is one of the few jackets manufactured in the UK and we take great pride and care in sourcing the very best seam sealing tapes, zips and fasteners before bringing all the components together and carefully producing such a quality garment.
Technical.
Waterproofing. Like any performance piece of MTB equipment the 3×3 must be correctly maintained to provide great performance so ensure that the Care Instructions given on the jacket are followed precisely. Keep an eye on how the face fabric handles rain water as it falls onto the outside- if water droplets simply run off the jacket all is well. However if the jacket ‘wets out’ and turns black and damp then its time to reproof. We recommend Grangers and Nikwax waterproofing agents which are available from any quality outdoor clothing shop (follow the product manufacturers instructions carefully).
Washing. Your 3×3 likes to be cleaned regularly but MAKE SURE THE CORRECT WASHING LIQUID IS USED! Use a none biological washing liquid, machine wash and rinse. Then tumble dry as this rejuvenates the water repellency of the fabric finish. Don’t use a biological detergent, fabric softener or bleach! Visit www.eventfabrics.com for further details.
