Pace Cycles are lucky enough to be based in one of the best riding locations  in the UK- Dalby Forest in the North York Moors National Park. A vast area of open moors, dales and forests bordering a fantastic coastline, it’s an area that can offer everything from some peaceful R&R with your mates or family through to day long rides that’ll satisfy any rider.

We’ve always encouraged customers to come and see what North Yorkshire has to offer- and now we can go one stage further and offer them a great place to stay as well-  Trailside. Based in Thornton Le Dale a beautiful North York Moors village in the National Park on the outskirts of Dalby Forest, Trailside is our self-catering holiday house ideally situated close to some great riding areas such as Rosedale, Newtondale and of course Dalby Forest with its 50k trail network and World Cup course. Trailside takes its name from the Moors to Sea offroad trail which passes close by through Thornton Le Dale- just 500 metres away-  as it makes its way through the forests and across the moors to Whitby. This trail is also your link into Dalby Forest as it connects Thornton Le Dale to the Dalby trail network just two miles away through the pretty Ellerburn Dale.

If road riding or touring is more to your liking the Vale of Pickering, the empty moorland back lanes or coastal byways offer some of the most dramatic blacktop you’ll find anywhere. A recent Tour of Britain stage passed through the beautiful local dale of Troutsdale with its Stage Finish in Dalby and this was voted the best stage of the entire tour.

Or perhaps you want to visit with your family in which case theres loads to do- the nearby coast offers everything from quiet bays and beaches  through to the famed seaside towns of Whitby, Scarborough and Filey. Inland there is loads of choice- Go Ape in Dalby Forest, Castle Howard, Eden Camp and the North York Moors railways in Pickering. plus of course some of the best walking across dales and moors, past ancient castles and through pretty villages.

 Trailside in the snow- Garden and rear of house December 2010

Trailside is Paces own self-catering edwardian house quietly located close to the village centre and provides everything you’ll need for a great stay including a secure and fully equipped attached workshop to support you and your bike. We call this our ‘Riders Refuge’  as it provides all the support active cyclists need. The house has been fully refurbished and can accommodate 5 people in its large two bedrooms (or an additonal 2 if necessary).

HERES A QUICK GUIDED TOUR;

Trailside; as you arrive theres private parking for at least two cars. Come into the house through a fully equipped utility room, toilet and access to the Riders Refuge. Into the large kitchen theres enough room here to prepare great meals in style with the kitchen adjoining our spacious dining room. In turn this opens into a light and airy lounge looking out onto a large and secure garden. In the lounge you’ll have the benefit of watching Freeview on a new large flatscreenTV.

Through the hall and upstairs you’ll find a big bathroom with walk in shower, massive bath and constant hot water- just great for relaxing into after a long day on the hill. Across the hall you’ll find two sizable bedrooms- three beds in the larger room over looking the garden and two in rear bedroom (downstairs in the lounge we have a bed settee which can be used for an additional two people if necessary.)

 We knew that if you’re a rider one of the most important aspects of time away with your bike is somewhere to securely store your pride and joy and carry out those necessary bits of maintenance. Riders Refuge is actually part of the house and is attached through an internal door. Light and airy the workshop is fully equipped with big workbench, all the cycle tools you’ll need, lubes and inner tubes, jetwash and bike stand and is totally secure with barred windows and tough embedded rings where you can secure your bikes.

Finally into the garden with sunny patio, open lawn and summer house all privately screened by high hedges and shrubs.
